What is the Alexander technique?

"The Alexander Technique is a method that works to change (movement) habits in our everyday activities. It is a simple and practical method for improving ease and freedom of movement, balance, support and coordination. The technique teaches the use of the appropriate amount of effort for a particular activity, giving you more energy for all your activities. It is not a series of treatments or exercises, but rather a reeducation of the mind and body. The Alexander Technique is a method which helps a person discover a new balance in the body by releasing unnecessary tension. It can be applied to sitting, lying down, standing, walking, lifting, and other daily activities..."

This lesson has immense practical value. Its approach is holistic. I viewed Mark Josefsberg’s presentation. It is very impressive and communicative. Mindful attention was naturally drawn. Then I came back to this lesson to ask, why the name ‘Alexander Technique’? (Dr.Ramakrishnan Srinivasan)

Let me share my experience/referral which is complementary to the practice mentioned above and demonstrated in the video. The Yoga Aphorisms of Sage Patanjali in Sanskrit prescribes a mindset while performing yoga-specific actions and also other static and dynamic movements. One sutra(aphorism) encodes it. Decoded into English, it reads “Am I continuously comfortable and in natural repose and rhythm, mentally and physically?” By maintaining this monitoring awareness, the practice gets more intesified. Try this and comment. PS. I got the answer to my question mentioned in the previous post by clicking on “what is Alexander Technique?” in the lesson itself.

    Hello,

Thank you for your kind words. The Alexander technique is based on “being aware” of every movement one makes throughout the day. The technique stresses the value of being mindful at all times. The technique helps people learn how to balance the mind and body.

    Hi Nellie,

I have a friend who is interested in studying psychology for her doctoral degree. Any recommendations for a good online school? She is interested in either general psychology or spiritual psychology.

I also have a question regarding accreditation. Any websites that you would recommend to help her get accreditation for a language arts program and a course on spiritual psychology?

Thanks so much and have a good day : – )

Is this technique similar to the methods used by holistic chiropractors?
